Home and Free
The creeks and the pond are calling
Me home to the Eastern Shore
The DC traffic slows me
But I break free just after four
On across the Anacostia
Highway 50 so clean in the sun
Passing by the Bowie exits
Annapolis next on my run
CHORUS
All the rivers, trees and fields
All the birds that come and go
Defy these troubled times
Bring me peace and let me go
The Bay Bridge rises gently
Over freighters far down below
Kent Island, first home to people
Ten thousand years ago
Kent Narrows, feared by sailors
Then the road turns southward bound
For Easton and then Cambridge
And old Salisbury farther down
CHORUS
Queen Anne’s Highway to crowded beaches
But I will not turn that way
Skipton Creek winds twice beneath me
On its way down to the Bay
The Easton Bypass takes me on around
To the Oxford Road
Peachblossom Creek, and I’m getting
So much closer to my home
There’s a herd of Belted Galways
In a field off to the east
Two young horses by their stable
And a gaggle of Canada Geese
Across Trippe Creek, and then at last
I’m home and I am free
Like the Martins in their houses
And the eagles in their tree
CHORUS
David - lead vocal
Jay Byrd - guitars and backing vocals
Kristen Jones - cello
Jim Robeson - backing vocals
